On Thursday, Ph.D. Oleg Maltsev unveiled the results of an investigation of the origin of the boxing style of the legendary coach Cus D’Amato, who brought up three boxing world champions, in particular Mike Tyson. These discoveries became possible due to the organization and conduct of a scientific expedition to sites in Italy, the ancestral homeland of D’Amato.

For two weeks, the expeditionary team, which included scientists, financiers, journalists and specialists in the field of martial arts overcame more than a thousand kilometers. The expedition route began in Munich and passed through such cities as Genova, Bari, Toritto, Bisceglie and Fiumi Freddo. The final point of the expedition was the city of Palermo. In the scientific study 8 types of data analysis were used. As a result, it was proved that the root system of Cus D’Amato’s style is the Neapolitan style of Spanish fencing. The “core component ” of Cus D’Amato’s style is consistent in 57 points with the Neapolitan style of Spanish fencing. The archetypal structure of the style and the technique of Cus D’Amato’s training also proved to be identical to the Neapolitan fencing.

Owing to the work of Bari State Archives staff, expeditionary team managed to obtain unique documents. In particular, archive materials fully confirmed Spanish roots of Cus D’Amato, his maternal line is directly related to the Spanish Chivalric Order, besides he is a direct descendant of Rosato lineage – the second line of the Neapolitan style of Spanish fencing which had originated from maestro Francesco Villardito.

This conclusion was also confirmed during a personal meeting, in the city of Bisceglie, between the head of the Expeditionary Corps Ph.D. Oleg Maltsev and maestro of Neapolitan fencing Sergio Potoni.

Also during the expedition were received information about the mother of Casa D’Amato, which was called Elizabeth Rosato-D’Amato, about which previously little was known. Thus the genealogy of the genus Casa was fully restored D’Amato.

Besides, during the expedition there were meetings held with maestro of Neapolitan and Palermitan fencing Salvador Carusa in the city of Fiumi Freddo and Dinno Alessi in the city of Corleone. These meetings made it possible to completely restore the tree of Neapolitan fencing. The final conclusions of the expedition will be presented in the book “Lighting rod that strikes faster than lighting itself”, the book is planned to be released in the beginning of 2018. According to the author of the book, Ph.D. Oleg Maltsev the book is going to be freely available for general usage.
